Bed Closures - Procedure - NSHA AD-C3-020

Description

Patient bed closures may occur for a variety of reasons. Closed beds reduce facility capacity and often results in increased wait times for patients. When beds must be closed, Nova Scotia Health will work to identify and communicate the change in bed status and reasons for the change. Nova Scotia Health’s goal is to facilitate a streamlined process and improve ongoing communication regarding bed statuses to improve capacity management by staff and leadership.

Nova Scotia Health will avoid closing beds whenever possible. If beds must be closed, Nova Scotia Health will work to re-open the beds as quickly as possible. Preventative actions by Nova Scotia Health aim to avoid closing patient beds and address any staffing issues in a timely manner.
